Shipping sign H.2.4 - Naming fairway or object
Shipping sign BPR H.2.4
Naming waterway or object
White signs with blue text should be used to indicate the name of a waterway or object (harbour, bridge, lock, etc.).
A lock name sign is placed on the lock site parallel to the axis of the lock chamber. Such indications are more noticeable if they are placed on or on the front wall, so that when approaching the lock, the name can be seen from the waterway, if applicable in combination with the number of the VHF channel. The name of a bridge is affixed to the bridge above the waterway.
The waterways are divided into 4 waterway groups according to water level width as an aid to choosing the correct sign size. The signs must be placed parallel to the axis of the waterway. The mileage runs from source to sea or from high to low canal building.
